Married

I had the pleasure of photographing a lovely bride and groom at the Columbus Ohio Temple on Saturday and fell in love all over again with this sign template from Martha Stewart. It is so easy to make and it always turns out so cute! Find an excuse to make one and then click here for the template.

(Busting my tail editing pictures from the day so hopefully I'll have them all up early next week!)

A pretty little row of colorful Easter eggs from me, to you. Enjoy!

Class of 2010

I just did my very first senior portraits last week. I was a little nervous, not having worked with a senior before, but I had a great time and I think it's something that I could really get into. Although these probably won't be up on the photo blog for awhile, I was excited to share a little peek:

P.S. When I upload pictures to my blog they look pixel-y and not very sharp. Question #1-do they look this way on your computer screen? And #2- how do I get blogger to upload them at a higher resolution? I know it's possible b/c I see beautiful, sharp images all over the web- help!

Pictures, Pictures and More Pictures

I have been gradually digging myself out of a massive pile of pictures. I think I am finally all caught up! Check out my photo blog for lots of new images. I'll have a new post every day this week and even a couple into next week as well.

P.S. As a random sidenote, I think those knitted hats for babies are the cutest thing ever. Pretty much the closest thing you can get to a baby having a tail. Adorable.

Still Life

It's family portrait time so I'm up to my ears in images. I'm actually feeling a little buried at the moment. However, among all the image taking and editing madness, I have really been enjoying still life photography. I used to think it was boring but lately it's been a nice change of pace for me. Instead of dancing around to get people to look at the camera I can take my time and really focus on the light and composition of the shot. My Polaroid is especially easy because there is no thinking about exposure settings or retouching in Photoshop. I also love the character of an old grainy image with a little natural vignetting around the edges. Here are a few recent favorites:

More Apples and Happy Fall

It's official. Today is the first day of autumn. I must admit I'm a little sad to see summer go but also excited for a little more crispness in the air and color in the trees. How about you?

Apple Picking

I went apple picking with the boys at a local orchard today. I think Spencer ate an apple that was roughly half the size of his head. No joke. But I can't blame him. Fresh picked apples are absolutely delicious and, as I discovered today, very pretty to look at as well.

Lots of new images are up on my photography blog: a wedding, a couple of families and an engagement session. Also, I still need to post the pictures from four different weddings so check back over the next few weeks!

Mailing List

Several people have expressed interest in my photography so I have decided to make a few trips to Columbus in the upcoming months for baby/child/family portraits. If you would like to stay apprised of the dates I will be in town, leave me a comment with your e-mail address (or you send it to me directly at hellokphoto@gmail.com) and I will put you on my mailing list!

Camera Stuff

Buying camera equipment can be tricky business. There is a lot of stuff out there and a lot of it is quite pricey so you want to make sure you buy the right stuff the first time. I am currently in the market for some new gear so I've been perusing the net for good deals and reading product reviews of a few things I have in mind. If you are just starting out in photography and are thinking about investing in a digital SLR, I recommend you read this this post by photographer Nicole Hill. She gives some great advice and outlines just few good cameras and lenses that are available in the Canon line. Also, I recently found this web-site which gives some very in depth reviews of all the Canon equipment.

P.S. Another great all around lens not mentioned in the post above is Canon's 24-70 f/2.8. I have Tamron's version (aka: the cheaper version) of this lens and I love it!

Jared and Aubrey: Sneak Peek

I think I have tried to execute this shot at almost every wedding I have photographed with mediocre results. Who knew the key to success was a bride with ultra cute, hot pink shoes!?

(May was a busy month for me so I'm in the midst of editing two weddings and a couple of families. I should have a lot more images to share in the next few weeks!)

Family Photos

This is my cute cousin Christy and her darling family. I took their pictures over Memorial Day weekend in Lakeside where they own a summer cottage. Anyway, this was one of my favorite shots. I love the color scheme she chose!

Polaroid Party

I recently bought an older Polaroid camera on ebay and have been having fun shooting around my house with it all week. Looks like I'm just in time for the Polaroid party on Flickr too!

My Best Friend's Wedding

I finally got the pictures up from my friend's wedding in Philadelphia back in November. I have known Rachelle since grade school so it was really fun to be a part of her big day. I am also happy the pictures turned out especially considering the circumstances under which they were shot. To say it was FREEZING outside would be an understatement. Seriously, it was so, stinking, cold. Luckily, Rachelle and Jim were good sports and still managed beautiful smiles even though their teeth were chattering! (Come to think of it, maybe they were laughing just so they wouldn't cry. It was really that cold.) If you'd like to see more pictures, you can check them out here.

Tutus

Right before Christmas I took some fun pictures using a few new tutus I bought on e-bay. I was pleased with the way they turned out since I just shot them in my dining room with no special lighting or anything. Having an extremely cute niece as a model might have had something to do with it though! The one above is my absolute favorite but if you want to check out a few more click here.

High Chair

I love taking pictures of Spencer in his high chair. 1-I have lots of good natural light in my kitchen/dining room, 2-He can't run away, 3- He's typically pretty happy (and cute) when he's eating. So, as far as photos go, it's a winning combination! Here are a few recent favorites:

Jonathan Canlas

It's official. I am in love with the work of Utah-based photographer Jonathan Canlas. My friend Vanessa turned me on to him a couple of months ago (he took her wedding pictures when he was still a photography student at BYU) and I can't get enough! I am a daily reader of his blog and oh my, is his work gorgeous! The coolest part about him is that he shoots 100% film (no digital). I am inspired by the fact that he creates beautiful images straight out of camera without doctoring them up in Photoshop. It makes me want to buy a film camera, learn how to use it and save all my little pennies to attend his Film Is Not Dead seminar. If you are into photography at all, his site is definitely worth bookmarking.
