Poor Mitch

To say he has had a rough week would be an understatement. It all started Tuesday afternoon when he fell getting out of Jared's van. His chin caught his fall which forced his two front teeth into his lower lip and one of his front teeth up into his gum slightly. (So one of his front teeth is halfway gone, not chipped but "intruded" back into his gum- ouch!) This was traumatic. Probably more so for Mitch because he was the one bleeding but I was still traumatized - especially because I felt his future dental wellness was on the line! However, Jared's older brother, a dentist, was able to talk me off the ledge. He reassured me that he would be fine, that the tooth could potentially come back down on it's own and that he probably didn't damage the permanent tooth behind it. Okay, I was feeling a little better until Wednesday morning. We decided to make a family trip to Wal-mart. (Of course. Because isn't that where all the white trashy parents take their battered children?) As soon as we walk in the door, Mitch trips, falls and hits his already bloodied and swollen mouth on the wheel of the shopping cart. It took all my will power to hold it together at this point. I thought for sure we were going to pick him up and he was going to start spitting out all his teeth. His mouth did start bleeding again but we were able to calm him down quickly. No more damage to his teeth but his lip is now EXTRA swollen. Mitch seems fine but I'm feeling more and more like a negligent parent and I'm also feeling paranoid, thinking the sweet old lady who greeted us is busy calling social services. I'm guessing at this point many of you are probably thinking about calling them too. (FYI: The sharing of similar experiences: "You'll never guess how my son got a black eye..." and/or a little stroking of my shrinking ego as a mother: "Kim, you're the greatest mom ever!" would certainly make appropriate comments, but no pressure.)
Here you can see his swollen face and partially intruded front tooth after the second fall:

So, while that's the end of the tooth drama (for now anyway) Mitch woke up Thursday with a cold that made his eyes very swollen and seeping fluid. It was a lovely addition to his fat lip and gimpy looking tooth. And as if that were not enough for one week, last night he woke up in the middle of the night with the stomach flu. He can't keep anything down. Since all his sheets and blankets are being washed, he just fell asleep on our living room floor:

Poor guy! Hopefully next week will start and end on a brighter note.

It's making me so sad to see his sweet little face all banged up!
Brigham younger, but he seriously gets a blackeye every other week! I'm feeling for you! And I know Stanton will really like that picture of Mitch's banged up mouth for all the wrong reasons!

Okay Joseph fell off my bed and hit his eye and forehead on the dresser. Big black eye on such a little face. Then I put his coat on and zipped up his chin. Yes it was horrible. And now since summer is here you should see both of my boys legs. Does that help. At least you didn't inflict the pain.

Kim, you're the greatest mom ever!! I really mean that:-)
It happens to all of us.
My kids will be simply sitting at the kitchen table eating when all of a sudden Seth or Isaac will just fall of their chair and hurt themselves.
I hope that Mitch heals up quickly.

Kim, you're the greatest mom ever. :) So someone already said that, but I'm sure you could hear it more than once. Poor Mitch, those pix look painful. Well our story isn't as bad, but I had similar thoughts today. It seems like every time I have someone babysit Ellie she has multiple owies. I was just examining her wondering what my friend might think. Multiple scratches on her knees from falling while walking on a gravel road. An owie on her foot that I have NO idea what its source is. And a red mark below her lip that happened in nursery. (And has been there for 3 weeks-I fear it might turn into a scar. I'm hoping not because I've been waiting to get her pictures taken...I just might wait forever?) I always hate it when the wounds look especially bad before church. Just tell everyone someone else was watching him and they all happened at once...

Oh, and the final stages of a diaper rash.

In addition to my previous comment. I take Eli outside and he falls off of a rock. Gets a fat lip and scratches his thumb all up. Well five minutes later he is trying to climb that same rock. What will be next??

Don't worry Kim, it's happened to us all! Well, maybe not as bad as this case......but it's just a string of bad luck, I'm sure. The poor little guy!

Ok, so I don't have any stories to tell of Abbey just yet, but I do have one that happened to me when I was little. My dad was outside chopping wood for the fire and he specifically asked me to stay inside, but of course I didn't listen. So instead of running outside where he could see me, I decided to run up behind him...Well, he swung the axe back just as I was coming close and hit me in the side of the face and knocked me into a cactus patch. I mostly caught myself with my hands, but I did have a few needles in my behind as well. He still hasn't lived that one down =) Hopefully that makes you feel a little better. You really are an awesome mom, don't be so hard on yourself!

So I already made you listen to my poor kid stories. You are such a good friend to me. You are also an incredible mother. Just think how fun it will be to tell Mitches kids one day. Mitch and Spencer are so blessed to have you as their mother.

poor mitchy! what a rough week he's had. don't blame yourself...maybe you should blame jared. it sounds like he's getting off the hook here. obviously totally kidding. kids just get hurt. (not usually all of these things in the same week...) :)
gracie fell off the couch at my mom's house when she was mitch's age and broke her collar bone! she had to wear this tiny sling. it was sad and and adorable all at the same time.

He'll survive and so will you. It is humiliating sometimes and does make us feel like terrible moms. Once I had Donald bit by a rabid dog, Jake with a Butterfly bandage on his head because his sister pushed him off the tractor seat and Jared with a cast on his arm and Bobby with a broken finger. I was almost ashamed to go anywhere. I thought they would come to get Bob and I. We were beginning to be known by the emergency staff on a first name basis. I can relate.
