Cloth Diapers

I am considering taking the plunge into the world of cloth diapers. I realize it is better for the Earth, which is nice and all, but I'm mostly thinking about it because it is better for our wallet- (diapers are expensive)! Although the initial investment seems hefty, over the long haul, we could end up saving a substantial amount of money, especially since we are not done having kids. However, I still haven't decided if the hassle of cloth diapers would be worth the amount saved. I've only done a little research on-line but it looks like many brands, including g diapers and bum genius, are pretty easy to use with a fit that resembles a disposable diaper (no folding or pins required). Cloth diapers have really come a long way because seriously, are those pink ruffley buns not the cutest thing you've ever seen?

We've got all sorts of diapers but I have to say, if you're looking to save money, prefolds are the way to go. It takes a couple of changes to get used to them but once you've got it, it's just as easy as anything else. They are really easy to get a great fit with because the diapers can be folded in so many different ways to suit the shape of your baby. They are also less prone to residue issues which can cause leaking because they're made of 100% cotton rather than the synthetic fibers many diapers are made from.

You can pick up a Bummis starter kit which has everything you need to get started for under $160!

We have tons of different diapers but these are by far the most reliable thing that we've come across.

Good luck and let the "fluff" addiction begin!

Secret I haven't told Jake--I can't get it off my mind as a possibility for next time. #1 reason: saving $. THAT is an exciting possibility to me. Everyone who does it say its NOT that messy. And they are absolutely darling. I don't like the idea of going into public and carrying a poo-filled diaper home with me though. Maybe disposables for that? I'll love to know your take if you ever do it.

I've heard *not fact necessarily* that you won't save money due to the extra washing and pre washing and soap and bleach you will use. Also, my SIL that uses cloth says when she goes out, she takes disposable anyway because it's too complicated to deal with clean up and packing it around until you can deal with it at home. Just my 2 bits.
