My secret? I just let the sewing machine do all the work. Seriously, I have been wanting to learn how to sew an article of clothing for awhile and I finally did. To my surprise I made a shirt that actually fits! My 7th grade Home Ec teacher would be so proud. I think my relationship with my sewing machine just got a lot more serious.
(For those of you who are interested, I used a really easy Built by Wendy Simplicity pattern: #3835. I used fabric I bought on clearance at JoAnns and I made the flower embellishments out of left over scraps to make the shirt look a little more Anthropologie-esque.)
Kim that is so cute! You should be very proud of yourself. Wow. I can't imagine making a piece of clothing for myself and succeeding. In college I took a few sewing classes (required), it was probably the worst part of college for me-besides math. I worked so hard on this dang dress that I LOVED and was sure it would look perfect. Turns out I have a sloped shoulder. I'll never forget the look on my teacher's face when she looked at my work, then looked at it on me-like it looked good until I put it on. I decided then and there that I would probably never attempt to make anything for myself again. Why work hard if it looks strange once its on me? It was a sad day when I dropped it off at DI. I'm glad you have better success. Your shirt is so cute!!
ReplyDeleteGo Kim! That is so CUTE!
ReplyDeleteThis shirt is so cute!
ReplyDeleteWow, look at you. I am so impressed. What a cute shirt, I love the flower on it.
ReplyDeleteGREAT JOB! I have wanted to make matching dress and skirt for Lydia and me but I am scared to so maybe you will have to give me tips!
ReplyDeleteSo I know that I might have been embarressing the other night at craft night when you were wearing this shirt, but I am just so impressed. It is awesome that you made this shirt. The flower really adds the perfect touch.
ReplyDeleteGreat job. I'd like to see more of it! And the flower really does look neat.
ReplyDeleteThis sewing talent does not suprise me at all. You are by far the most talented and creative person I know.
ReplyDeleteVery nice! With your creative abilities you could go far with this. Sewing is so rewarding. You may have inspired me to start sewing again. Now that your little brother, who couldn't be left alone for 30 seconds is 21, it might be ok. :)
ReplyDeleteThat looks fantastic!!! I need to build a stronger relationship with my sewing machine. The last dress I tried to make turned into a tent. I'll stick with curtains for now. But that shirt is pretty inspiring. Good job!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute shirt! Love the flower detail! I have the Cabo Halter pattern by Amy Butler that I'd like to try sometime soon - before summer is over would be nice! Also, I'd like to try some skirts - they can't be that hard, can they? You've inspired me to try some clothing!
ReplyDeleteWow Kim you did such a great job! I'm going to have to check that pattern out, alothough I'm pretty sure I won't get the same results! :)
