Bring Out the Best

Last year at about this time, I ate the perfect turkey sandwich while vacationing in Florida. The sandwich included delicious bread, turkey sliced fresh from the deli and Hellmann's Real Mayonnaise. Since that time, I have been trying to recreate my perfect turkey sandwich experience. I've purchased various brands of bread and various brands of deli turkey. To my dismay, all my perfect sandwich recreation attempts have been in vain. Figuring a huge part of the deliciousness of the sandwich was based around the mayonnaise (it was the full fatty kind and I normally buy light) I even purchased full fatty store brand mayo. Sadly, even with full fat mayonnaise, my creations just weren't living up to the dream sandwich I ate while on vacation. After sharing my disappointment with Jared, he suggested that perhaps the sandwich just tasted good because I was eating it at the beach and washing it down with a pina colada. He had a good point but I wasn't willing to give up just yet. And I'm glad I didn't because this week I broke down and purchased HELLMANN'S REAL Mayonnaise. Little did I know there is a HUGE difference between the store brand full fatty mayo and Hellmann's. I figured all brands of full fatty mayonnaise were created equal, right? WRONG! Hellmann's truly is THE BEST. At last! I found my perfect turkey sandwich! Who would have guessed it has nothing to do with the bread or the turkey but everything to do with Hellmann's full fatty, real mayonaise. I'm in heaven. Now I just need to find the perfect pina colada mix and a beach and I'm set.

  1. Kim I'm glad you found your sandwich, etcetera, etcetera, but I'm a little hurt that you may have forgotten about our late night sandwich runs to Kneaders. Do they not have the best turkey sandwiches there? I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, and assume that you forgot. :)

  2. I could have told you that!! I too tried out every kind of mayo for a perfect turkey sandwich Hellmann's was my favorite too. The BEST part about Hellmenn's is that it has no Trans fat and it has Omega 3 in it. So even though it does have fat in it. It is somewhat healthier for you. And I think it tastes the best too. Here is to a perfect turkey sandwich:-)

  3. Kim, I recently made the same discovery myself. I had an awesome sandwich and decided it was the mayo. Ditto. I broke down and got the real stuff (after never buying it before). Oh my. The difference is amazing. I don't think we have any in our fridge now, but its sure to make a comeback.

Bring out the Hellmans, and bring out the BEST!

  5. Yes, I agree. But I can never bring myself to buy it. I'll buy Hellmanns light, but I can't ever do full-fat. It is weird because I have no problem eating it on a deli sandwich. I think I'm afraid to bring it home and one day find an empty jar and think, man I ate that whole jar. It is the best though.

  6. So out here Hellmanns is called Best Food and I was raised on it. I don't think I've ever bought anything else... maybe kraft but I didn't like it. Nothing else tastes right! I always thought it was just cuz I grew up on it.

  7. Nick's great grandparents owned a deli in NYC and were approached by Mr. Hellman to invest in his new mayonaise company idea... their response, "Everyone makes their own mayo! NO!"
