Expensive Shampoo

I recently bought this salon shampoo and conditioner. Totally out of character for me. I'm a 99 cent Suave kind of gal and I never use conditioner. However, after lamenting my hair woes to my stylist, she advised that salon shampoo really does make a difference and that I should consider using conditioner. (Truth be known, if she told me to jump off a cliff I probably would because she's just that cool and classy. Really and truly. Hi Ruth!) So, as it turns out-she was totally right! It really does make a difference. My hair feels shinier, healthier and more voluminous than it has in a long while. At first I thought it was just the placebo effect but Jared and my sister BOTH noticed a difference. (I don't know, maybe they're just trying to make me feel good?) So I'm curious, what are your thoughts on expensive beauty products? (All I ask is if you're going to burst my bubble, try and let me down easy.)

  1. I have never bought salon shampoo. But I swear by conditioner. I can't believe you didn't use it! We were recently traveling and I didn't use conditioner for a couple days--boy did I notice a difference! So maybe your new bouncy hair is because of conditioner. :-) Although the salon stuff must have something better about it since it costs so much, right?

  2. Well Kim, being a hairstylist myself, I have to agree with her. It really does make a huge difference. I always tell clients, "if all you want to do is get your hair clean, go ahead, use suave. but if you care about keeping your hair healthy, etc., you really need to use professional stuff. There is a reason why the cheap stuff is so cheap (cheap ingredients)and it's actually very harsh on your hair. The only people that really don't need to worry about thi stuff are those with super short hair. Anyway, I'll get off my soap-box now. Good choice, Kim! You should also try some Paul Mitchell products, they're my favorite!

  3. courtney, I knew you would have at least two cents to add! (I think I remember you going to ShopCo with some of your beauty school friends to protest because they were selling fake Paul Mitchell products...that is when I knew you were really hard core. :)

  5. I'm only going to multiply your bubbles, not burst them. First, I LOVE the smell of biolage. Its the first real product I ever bought. I could get high on it...if it was possible. LOVE that smell. I totally believe its made a difference on your hair. My hair (along with every other exterior part of my body) is super dry, so I'm pretty sure if I used plain jane stuff it would fall out-even with "real product" its dry. So, I've been forking over them money for the good stuff for a while now. Hey, my hair is my favorite physical trait, so it gets nicer stuff...so it doesn't fall out and so I'm not bald. I attempt to get it on sale, which doesn't always work out. I have heard its good to rotate. I'd like to know your professional stylist friends thoughts on this. Do you love the smell of biolage?!

  6. If I had known that you were using Suave on your hair, I would have had an intervention long ago. I definitely swear by professional hair products. and being the beauty school drop-out that I am, I know that I really have no jurisdiction here...but there is no turning back now, once you go professional, you never go back.(and if you do, promised-intervention will take place)

  7. No turning back once you cross from the dark side into the light...I use Redken products and it makes a HUGE difference. I used to use Suave and it's great if you just want a basic cleaning job. BUT, if you want real volume and shine, I swear by professional stuff.

  8. I agree with all of the above comments, I too used to be too cheap to buy salon products, but I have crossed over from the dark side. I use biolage too, and I notice a HUGE difference in the way my hair looks and feels. Ruth was the one who inspired me to switch over as well! I didn't realize it before but the cheaper shampoos and conditioners were stripping my hair, leaving it feeling lifeless and brittle. I will never go back!

  10. I am totally on the good hair products band wagon. It really makes a difference. I have tried many different salon shampoos and conditioners and I think they are all leaps and bounds better than the cheap stuff. I also swear by silk products. I put a tiny bit in my hair before I dry it straight and it really makes my hair feel like silk. That is saying a lot since my hair is so much more course since I have been going grey.

  11. Kim, since our hair is nearly identical and Suave isn't quite working for me either,(though I do use conditioner)I am convinced to try the Biolage. Thanks to all comments I think I'm goin' over to the other side too! There is no fiscal responsibility when it comes to a good hair day.-Mom-

  12. You know I HAD to comment on this one! I am SO glad that you have converted over to the professional products. Seriously, you and my mom.......!!! (I also had to laugh about you jumping off a cliff if I said to because I feel the same way about you. I want to be just like you when I grow up!)

Here's to happy hair days ahead!
